Meet Hunter

Breed: Terrier Cross (Mixed Breed)

Barking from: Lower Hutt

What's up dog?

I wasn’t too sure about entering this year because I know Hunter is far from perfect, he can be reactive with things but we are learning and trying our best. Hunter’s reactivity does not define him because I know Hunter is still a good boy who loves making friends and deserves to be endlessly loved.

In last years entry I mentioned that Hunter and I found each other when we were both in need. My mental health was rapidly declining. I saw no hope, no future and I was ready to give up but then I met 6 month old Hunter. Hunter's owner had passed away. His second owner couldn’t take care of him so decided to surrender Hunter to the rescue farm I was working at. I offered to foster Hunter until we found him his forever home. However I quickly fell in love with Hunter, I got attached and couldn’t let him go. So I made the decision to adopt Hunter. I still struggle a lot with my mental health but Hunter gives me a reason to fight to stick around. Hunter is my sunset through the clouds. My warmth through the frost. My happiness through the tears. My light through the darkness. My pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. He is my sweet, crazy, loving boy.

Hunter may not be NZ’s top dog but he is my whole world and he is my top dog.
