Navigate your career from the field to the boardroom with Infront Sports

Shannon: Alright, so keeping with the Australian flavor, I'm thrilled to be joined by Luke Murchie. Luke, tell us a little bit about In Front Sports.

Luke: Absolutely. Thanks for having me, Shannon. In Front Sports has been operating for 15 years as Australia's premier partner in career transition. While we've been recruiting for sporting roles in the background, we officially launched our sports recruitment services in March this year.

Shannon: Okay, and now, of course, I've highlighted the fact that you're in Australia and in Melbourne, but it’s really exciting that this extends out to New Zealand as well. So, I guess, what kind of services are on offer for Kiwis in the industry?

Luke: Yeah, so importantly, we're powered by People to People. We have representatives in each of the People to People, Frog, and Edge branches. We offer athlete career transition services and are constantly out in the market speaking to sports industry clients and candidates within those regions.

Shannon: Fantastic. And if you're an athlete looking at what next steps may be, future-proofing, or even those who have that niche skillset and want to continue working within the sporting industry, why should they choose In Front Sports? What do we have to offer them?

Luke: They should absolutely reach out to In Front Sports or their local branch of Frog or People to People. We're always speaking to clients within the sporting industry and have a good gauge of the market. We have a great database of candidates, so we can hopefully match them up with clients we’ve been working with in the sports space.

Shannon: Cool. Now, sorry to put you on the spot—this wasn’t on the list of questions—but can you give us an idea of the types of roles that perhaps athletes have transitioned into or some of the organizations you’re working with?

Luke: Yeah, that has put me on the spot. We have athletes coming out of their careers and looking into a wide range of industries. A big one is staying within sport, often looking down the path of player development managers and similar roles, gaining skillsets to stay within sport and help other players progress. But we’ve also placed athletes in work experience placements in a variety of industries.

Shannon: I know that, as you said, a good starting point or an obvious fit can be staying within the sporting industry. But sometimes it’s about making that move into a more corporate environment and using those skillsets in a different way. So it’s good to have that variety of options available.

Luke: Absolutely. Athletes often have great skillsets that match what clients in the corporate setting are looking for. That’s a big part of what we do—helping them understand and leverage those skills.
